The format for essays, research papers, and theses is determined by the professor of record for each course. Many of the professors utilize the Chicago Manual of Style as found in Form and Style by Carole Slade and Robert Perrin (Houghton-Mifflin). Professors in the area of counseling may choose to use the American Psychological Association Style. In addition, the Society of Biblical Literature has developed a student handbook (SBL Handbook of Style) accepted among members of the society in biblical and theological research that provides an excellent reference for ancient, near eastern, biblical, and early Christian studies. Students should consult the syllabus for each course to identify the respective style required by the professor of record.

This site is useful in understanding how to construct basic or advanced searches to yield more efficient results during research.
